Moldova-China Chamber of Commerce Announces New Foreign Investment Opportunities for Moldova

CHIȘINĂU, Moldova – October 8, 2024 – Boris Foca, President of the Moldova-China Chamber of Commerce and Industry, outlined new opportunities for attracting foreign investment to Moldova during a press conference held this morning. Mr. Foca discussed recent economic missions to China and highlighted promising developments in sectors like medical technology, agriculture, and renewable energy, emphasizing the Chamber's role in facilitating connections with Chinese investors and navigating the evolving geopolitical landscape.

The press conference served as a platform to update the Moldovan business community on the Chamber's recent activities and future plans. Mr. Foca detailed upcoming trade missions, including a medical sector delegation departing Wednesday and participation in all three phases of the Canton Fair, with a record number of approximately 100 Moldovan companies attending. He also announced an agriculture expo scheduled for October 26-28.

“Moldovan businesses are realizing that the Chamber of Commerce is a vital mechanism for streamlined interaction with Chinese partners,” stated Mr. Foca. “Participating in economic missions and specialized exhibitions in China can only add value for all parties involved.”

Mr. Foca also revealed a significant development in the renewable energy sector. A Chinese investment fund, already active in Romania with acquisitions exceeding 70 million Euros, has expressed interest in large-scale green energy projects in Moldova, with capacities starting at 10-15 megawatts. "This investment fund is actively seeking large-scale green energy projects in Moldova," Mr. Foca announced, encouraging Moldovan companies in the sector to connect with the Chamber.

The President of the Chamber also shared insights from his recent participation in the International Conference of Chambers of Commerce and Business Associations. He detailed conversations with key figures, including the President of AmCham China, regarding Moldova's position in the global market and its potential role in the reconstruction of Ukraine. He also mentioned a productive meeting with the President of the UK-China Business Council, who indicated an upcoming high-level state visit of British officials to China.

The Chamber's focus on legal support for Moldovan businesses was also addressed. The Chamber is currently establishing an arbitration court to handle disputes arising from business dealings with Chinese companies. A legal representative of the Chamber, Andrei Coadă, elaborated on the newly initiated legal segment, focusing on contract review and commercial dispute resolution. He emphasized the importance of these services in mitigating risks and building trust between businesses in both countries.

“The legal segment initiated by the Chamber aims to provide continuous support to businesses operating in both Moldova and China,” explained Mr. Coadă. “Our services will help prevent many of the problems that businesses encounter when engaging in legal relations with a country as distant as China.”

The Moldova-China Chamber of Commerce and Industry continues to be a driving force in fostering economic cooperation between the two nations. The Chamber encourages Moldovan businesses to leverage the opportunities presented and contact them for further information on upcoming events, market insights, and legal support.
